DESCRIPTION :
Cement is an essential item for any construction item for any construction activity . Vertical Shaft Kin technology has now been accepted as one of the various technologies available for the manufacture of the ordinary portland cement (OPC) of IS:269 quality. It can also produce high strength ordinary portland cement confirming to IS: 8112-1976 with suitable proportioning of raw materials & careful operation of the Kiln technology, some of which are :
  • Utilisation of smaller deposits of limestone.
  • Reducing the strain on the transport system, as most of the cement manufactured can be consumed in the nearby market.
  • Lower capital Investment per unit capacity.
  • Quick return of the capital investment because of low gestation period.
  • The sense of ownership is widened as number of the enterprneurs shall be in a position to set up units of different capacities based on financial conditions.
 
PROCESS :
The process involves mixing of limestone, clay, Low volatile Coal/coke breeze & other corrective materials & grinding together to a fineness of 10% retained on 170 mesh in dry condition & finally blending in a special mechanical or pneumatic blender to meet thechemical requirements of raw meal. The nodulles of required size are made in a Noduliser by adding watwr to the raw meal. These nodules are fed into vertical shaft Kiln through the revolving feed hopper, which spreads the nodules evenly round the periphery of the Kiln. As the material passes down the Kiln , it is dried, heated & burnt into clinker at about 1400*C. The clinker then passses through the cooling zone & after getting cooled, is discharged from the bottom of Kiln through rotary Air locks. The combustion air which is provided by a blower serves as cooling media for the clinker, thereby making the heat transfer more efficient. The clinker thus taken out from kiln than passes on to a ball-mill where it is ground with required quantity of gypsum to produce cement of standard quality i.e IS:269-1967. The critical variables for process control of a vertical shaft kiln are the chemical composition of the raw material & fineness of raw meal.


The characterstics of the raw material including fuel could be evaluated with respect of the variable like ability to nodule formation of the required size, strenght, porosity, thermal stability, uniformity etc.

CONSUPTION OF RAW MATERIAL :
Typical consuption of raw materials per tonne of product shall be Limestone (Te) : 1.25-1.4; Clay (Te) : 0.08-0.1, Coke Breeze (Te) : 0.15-0.18; Gypsum (Te) : 0.05 Approx.
 
UTILITIES :
Power Load : 330 KW for 50 TPD
 
TECHNOLOGY TIE UP :
LEW plamt are designed indigeneously by Regional Research Laboratory, Jorhat, the field who best understand the Indian Climatic & working conditions. This process is being released by NRDC & we are approved fabricator comsultants & turnkey contractors of NRDC, New Delhi.
 
CONSULTANCY TIE UP :
  • LEW assist to the client for raw material evaluation & design of Raw material.
  • Training of the personnnel of the client at RRL, Jorhat.
  • LEW assist the client during commissioning of the plant & providing the guarantee run of the kiln.
